Michael & Elizabeth Matern moved to Wesley, Iowa where Michael was a large
and progressive farmer. He pioneered in the use of new crops and in the
very best of livestock.
Michael Matern bought and installed the first carload of agricultural
drainage tile in Kossuth County, IA before WW I. Some of that very tile is
still in service. The Materns had a very large family of their own and also
raised several other children.
