The Strong family of England was originally located in the County of
Shropshire. One of the family married an heiress of Giffith of the County of
Caerrnarvon, Wales and went thither to reside in 1545. Richard Strong was
of this branch of the family and was born in County Caernarvol in 1561. In
1590 he moved to Tauntonm Sommersetshire, England where he died in 1618
leaving a son, John, of 8 years & a daughter Eleanor.

John Strong was a tanner, born in Taunton, England in 1608, sailed from
Plymouth, England to the New World in 1630 in the ship "Mary & John." They
landed at Nantaskett, MA. He was among settlers who settled and founded
Dorchester, MA. He had a wife and a son, John, born in England. Another
child was born and died in 1630 either aboard ship or after landing. In
1638 John married Abigail Ford, daughter of Thomas Ford, who had also come
over from England aboard the "Mary & John." They had 16 children.
