This is what B F Reed's History of Kossuth County, published in 1913 has
to say about Frank Wolf:
"Frank Wolf left his parents home at 22 and farmed for himself in Putnam
County, Ilinois. In 1900, he came to Kossuth County, IA, and bought 120
acres which he improved by tiling. He also rented and farmed 180 acres. He
was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Western Catholic Union. He
supported the Democratic Party and served as a school director. It is stated
that he was an indefatigable worker, of practical ideas and systematic
methods. Also, his strongest characteristics were diligence and
perseverance."
Frank Wolf was a Catholic. He was a cheerful, round, baldheaded, blue
eyed man. He was very hard of hearing, but he liked to listen to the
Sunday PM radio broadcasts of Father Coughlin who was very popular in 1930s.
In his last years he lived at Lakota, IA, with his daughter Laura and her
husband Urban Hommerding and their family and that is where he died.

[43] Barbara loved flowers and kept a caged canary. She was a member & past
Regent of the Court Fidelis of the Catholic Daughters of America at Wesley &
was also a charter member of the St Cecelia Court at Algona, IA and a member
of the Royal Neighb ors and the American Legion as well. She died at home.
The Wesley News-World stated she was ill 5 years with rheumatism & Arthritis.
Her daughter, Esther said she had cancer and was bedridden 14 months before
her death. In spite of her pain she was cheerful & uncomplaining to the end.

[326] Henry Peter Wolf was nicknamed "Hohn" by the family and many others who knew
him. He was a fine baseball player. He earned his living building and
painting city water tanks for Pittsburg, of DesMoines, IA.
This took him away from home much of the time. He died of Hodgkins disease.

[327] Adam Wolf came to Kossuth County, IA. with his parents in 1900 and attended
St Joseph Parochial School at Wesley, IA. He worked as a farmer near Waubun
MN, and farmed at Wesley and Corwith, IA. before moving to Duncombe, IA. He
was working in a Fort Dodge, IA. Factory at the time of his death which was
caused by a heart attack

[328] Julius Caspar Wolf, "Cap", as he was known to others outside the family,
entered the US Navy about the same time as his brother Cornelius, on July 3,
1918). He served in many areas of the world. His sister Esther kept a
seashell he sent her from Guantanamo Bay and she repeated stories he told of
the atrocities commited by the Turks during WW I. Probably he served only
during WW I
When he located at Mahnomen, MN, He worked at the Schuhorn farm until 1942,
when it was sold. Hze worked 6 m,onths in Alaska and then worked in a
shipyard in Duluth, MN, before returning to Mahnomen. He died of a heart
attack on July 21, 1974.
Stella Mayer Eischen, his niece, remembered that he stayed
with her parents when her Father, William Mayer, had "lumbago" and he once
remarked that when he came to stay with them Stella could stand upright under
the table but that when he left she had grown and could no longer stand there!

[329] Cornelius Wolf nickname "Kernie" Born on a farm Near Magnolia, IL & moved
to Wesley, IA with his parents in 1900. Attended St Joseph School in Wesley
& enlisted in US Navy July 3, 1918 at Great Lakes Trng Station & served on
USS Arizona. He contracted Spanish Influenza & died in Brooklyn Navy Hospital
of pneumonia. His body was shipped back to Wesley by train & health laws
prohibited opening the casket & the body was taken immediately to the cemetery
Services were held at St Joseph Church with Fr Fisch officiating.

[330] Esther and her husband, William Mayer,
moved to a new house in Sec 13, Irvington Twp, Kossuth Co, IA shortly after
marriage & lived there until 1994 when they moved to a smaller home they
built in Sec 18, Irvington Twp where they lived until their deaths. Esther did
the usual work of a farm housewife. She loved flowers, crocheted, did
embroidering & loved telling her children about her family. She was a
member of the Catholic Daughters of America & the Rosary Society.

[331] Louis Wolf (as he was generaly known) received his education in the
parochial school at Wesley. He was the tallests of the family at 6"4". He
was drafted into US Army in 1942 & served in the Signal Corps. Some of his
service was in India. Before entering the army he had developed a fine herd
of Brown Swiss dairy cattle which he sold before he left. After service he
farmed at Eagle Bend, MN until his death from cancer. He never married.

[332] Altho his given name was Otto, he was generally called Dick by the family
& others. He received his education in the parochial school at Wesley. He
was drafted into the US Army in October 1941 and spent several months at
Camp Robinson, AR, with Co B 56th TR Bn. He received a Medical Discharge.
He served as Prairie Twp Assessor for a time. His death was caused by a
cerebral Hemorhage. He never married.

[333] Frances Wolf attended the parochial school at Wesley, IA. She was living
at home when she became ill with tubercular peritonitis in early 1924,
according to the obituary in the Wesley newspapzer. She was confined to her
bed about the first of March 1924 and shortly thereafter was taken to the
Algona Hospital for surgery. Surgery was delayed because of a heart
condition which did not improve enough for the operation
Her baptismal Sponsors were Jacob & Agnes Wolf

[334] Laura Wolf received her education in the St Joseph Parochial school in
Wesley. She played the piano, does crocheting and raises flowers. She and
her sister Hertula were the main care givers for their mother in her long
illness and Laura kept house for her father and brothers who, were then still
at home, until her marriage.

[336] Leander "Butch" Wolf attended the parochial school at Wesley, IA. He was
working at the John Deere Company when the United States entered WW II. He
enlisted in the Navy and survived the sinking of the US Destroyer Blue in the
summer of 1942. Following the war, he went back to work at the John Deere
factory and had completed 35 years of service at the John Deere factory when
he retired in 1970. He died of cancer. Leander & Edna had no children.

[337] Hertula attended elementary grades at St Joseph School in Wesley and
graduated from Wesley High School. She also completed a course at a Mankato
MN business school. She raised her family, then worked as a cook at the
Wesley Public School & at the nursing home in Kanawha, IA. She also cleaned
St Joseph's Church and school for a number of years. She enjoyed reading &
her flower garden. She died of cancer. At one time Hertula had four sons
in the military service at one time (Korea ? - Viet Nam ?)

[338] Harold "Hod" Wolf received his education in the Wesley Schools. He
served in the US Army in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, 1944 or 1945,
and received the Purple Heart. From 1946 to 1950 he worked for the John
Deere Company in Waterloo, IA, after which he farmed. He owned a farm at
Eagle Bend, MN, which he operated until his retirement. His death was due
to leukemia
